One Step Closer to Become an Effective Writer

Module 2 Writing Activity: observation list of the scene (continue)

As I limited in time I have to get back to work as soon as possible, in other words immediately after finishing of the first module :). I’m a little bit tired, but still stand ready for new assignment performance.

The second part of our assignment is aimed at studying and practicing with verbs:

Continue your observation list of the scene you observed for Unit 3, Journal Assignment 1 by noting several vivid action verbs. Revise some of your sentences using action verbs and/or write 2-3 new sentences with action verbs. Try not to use any of the forms of “to be” (is, are, was, etc.).  Underline the action verbs in your sentences.

I’m satisfied with the sentences from previous assignment and limited in time so I’m going to revise some of these sentences using action verbs.

  1. Yoga instructor welcomed participants and started to explain the basics of yoga.
  2. The woman, who was overcoming the pain in her legs, tried to repeat the asana.
  3. A man faced difficulties while performing yoga positions.
  4. A student couldn’t focus his thoughts on meditation and keep thinking about the coming exam on mathematics.
  5. The colleagues were doing their best to repeat exercises, but they couldn’t keep smile at each other.
  6.  The participants were listening carefully for instructor’s hints and at the same time seeking to breath in a right way.

Some new sentences with action verbs:

  1. Girls and boys were breathing loudly during yoga poses accomplishment.
  2. Yoga will help you to improve physical health and reduce stress in your life.
  3. The most two difficult things in yoga are to control your breath and to keep balance during poses performing.
  4. Madona likes yoga exercises very much maybe this is the secret of her good shape.

Hello everyone!

My congratulations to all of you as the Week 3 has already started! It means that I should hurry up with performing of the first task for this week. Below you can find the assignment:

Observe a scene, preferably in a crowded, busy, or public place. List the activities that you see occurring and the actors (those doing the activity). Write 5-6 sentences that use your observation list and underline the subjects of your sentences. Write a few sentences experimenting with using different types of pronouns from the tables in Unit 3.  You will want to keep all of these sentences at hand as you do the writing activities for this unit.

I’ve decided to observe the scene of doing yoga exercises.

1

Here is the list of activities:

Watch, breath, perform, repeat, meditate, think, start, explain, improve.

And the actors who are performing these activities:

Woman, man, instructor, student, colleagues, participants.

The last part of this assignment is to write sentences:

Module 3 Writing Assignment: Working with Words

Wow!!! I can’t believe it is the last part for this week…as I’ve already taken Weekly Quiz :). Unfortunately I was too late to finish this assignment before the deadline,  and I can’t submit it so there is no evaluation for that. No matter what I’ve still done it to develop my writing skills. I would be thankful if you could leave a comment under this post.

And here is an Assignment:

Choose two of the sentences listed below to expand by adding logical additional parts of speech (nouns, pronouns, verbs, adjectives, adverbs, prepositional phrases).  Each sentence should contain a minimum of 12 unique words.

  • The children play.
  • The woman walks.
  • The sharks swim.
  • The flowers bloom.
  • The wind blows.
  • The computer hums.

I’ve picked up the sentences that marked red. For your convience below is an example from our CEW instructors:

Seals performed

Adding all the parts of speech that we learned during week 2, it can be as follows:

The sleek black seals in the pool leaped eagerly out of the shimmering water, slid quickly upon the wooden deck around the pool, and barked noisily at the stunned spectators in the half-empty bleachers.

Below is the outcome of my hard work 🙂 :

In the quiet narrow street I saw glaringly gorgeous woman dressed up in a romantic white but at the same time elegantly floor-length dress, who was levitating across the street when suddenly she vanished in the air; still I’m wondering if it was real or an angel that walks towards me in my dream.

Working under hard technical project a team leader was typing nervously on a computer trying to finish draft version within the extremely short time and keep himself calm although he was incredibly aggravated with the intrusive hums of overloaded PC.

Thank you for your time reading my post!

See you soon!

Module 2 Writing Activity

Let me continue our writing activity. Here is another assignment where I should write down a list of at  least five to ten verbs and adverbs as well.

Verbs:

Walk, run, play, smile, see, want, blow, start, stop, come.

Adverbs:

Lovely, happily, suddenly, extraordinarily, gladly, carefully, loudly.

The last part of the assignment is  to write a couple of sentences using the list of nouns, adjective, verbs, and adverbs. Here is my sentences:

It was a fine, sunny weather and our joyful family gladly decided to take a walk through our lovely park. My delighted daughter was laughing loudly, running and playing happily while suddenly she saw extraordinarily beautiful flower that was iridescent in the warm pleasant sunlight. Once she had wanted to ask her farther to take a photo of the unusual flower as suddenly a piercing, cold wind blew from the high and rocky mountains along with a hard rain.  In less than 5 minutes the rain stopped all at once and a bright sun came out through solid clouds.

Hi Everyone!!!

My name is Regina. I’m 26 years old. And here is my first E-Journal. Frankly speaking, I can’t believe that I’ve managed to do it :).

Let me provide some details about my blog.

One of my goals is to make English as a second native language as well as improve grammar and writing skills. Several weeks ago I was lucky to find such a great website as www.coursera.org and later I’ve registered for the course – Crafting an Effective Writer: Tools of the Trade.  I hope this course helps me achieving the goal. One of the course assignments was to create e-journal for writing assignment.  So, in this e-journal you may review my ability to perform a writing task.

I have never attended such online courses before, so it is my first try…and I’ll do my best.

Wish all my fellows to have a sound storage of patience and confidence…and GOOD LUCK!!! And don’t forget that it is never late to make one step closer to become an Effective Writer!

Thank you for visiting my e-journal.
